Gas is a potent and dangerous fossil fuel.

Burning gas in homes and buildings (whether it be through a stove, water heater, or furnace) generates dangerous pollution that sickens communities and contributes to climate consequences like wildfires and flooding. 

Gas burns in our home every time we use our gas stoves, furnaces and water heaters.

Gas is more than 90% methane — which is 80x more potent than carbon dioxide in our atmosphere and is accelerating the climate crisis.

Gas has overtaken coal as the largest source of climate-warming carbon pollution in the nation, and U.S. gas consumption has soared nearly 15% since 2014. 

Gas infrastructure leaks methane at every stage of its lifecycle. New research suggests that the climate impact from methane leakage is much larger than previously thought.

Gas in homes & buildings accounts for 13% of emissions contributing to climate change in Colorado.

Gas appliances produce more greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than our power plants. Nationally, building emissions spiked last year - rising ten percent and driving one of the largest national emissions increases in two decades. The energy used to power and heat buildings is the largest source of climate pollution in the world. 

 
 

We cannot stabilize our climate without phasing out gas in our homes & buildings, using clean renewable energy, & swapping out gas appliances for electric appliances.
